Dr. James has given master classes at colleges and universities across the United States and has been on the faculty of the Spence School and the Metropolitan String Orchestra in New York.

She was awarded two teaching fellowships at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theater and Dance, where she taught college piano curricula and was faculty on the University’s Piano Pedagogy and Laboratory Program for five years while completing her dissertation.

Her piano pedagogy dissertation is titled: “Carl M. Roeder: The derivation of his technical philosophies as presented in his book Liberation and Deliberation in Piano Technique.” The dissertation demonstrates the teaching philosophies of the late Juilliard teacher Carl Roeder through videos and explores pedagogical influences dating to Liszt.
